Get to Know Me
Hello, I’m Bridget, and welcome to my passion!
I grew up on a sheep farm in South Canterbury and loved the freedom of living in the country; adventures, being free to be a kid, fresh air and hard work. Nothing like farm life to set you up with life long skills such as resilience, resourcefulness and good old kiwi ingenuity. After living in a number of cities in New Zealand and Australia, I now live in Māpua, near sunny Nelson and this region has been my home for 12 years. I love spending time in nature with my kids, riding my motorcycle and reading in the sun.
I truly care for all of my clients, and work diligently to help find them the answers they seek. Since 2000, I have worked with a variety of parents, helping them work through unique circumstances.
I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was 7 years old so after a stint getting a fashion diploma, I became one in 2012 and absolutely loved my job for over 10 years. I left to spend the first 1000 days with my youngest son, Milo who was born in 2020. Having an older child, Ava (there are 11 years between them), and then a newborn made me start thinking about how I wanted to raise Milo. Would I do things the same way or was there room for growth?
Driven by curiosity, I began researching, reading, trying out new techniques and really enjoying myself. I found my whole parenting style was changing and the response I was getting from Milo & Ava was incredible but more importantly, the way I felt about being a parent was changing. I contested beliefs from my own upbringing, questioned outdated reasoning and started to grow.
I started sharing techniques with friends and then realised that this was my new passion, my new purpose. So I started Parenting on Purpose in 2022 and I’m driven to help parents feel success in their role of parenting, because after all, it is the most important job in the world! I’m very much looking forward to meeting you and working with you to get the best out of your parenting relationship with your child/ren.
I am a passionate and dedicated educator with over 10 years of experience as a primary trained teacher teaching new entrants all the way through to intermediate age. I've also worked as a homeschool educator for 7 years, running sessions for homeschooled children; covering extensive topics and helped to build resilient, confident and able young adults.
I currently work as an early childhood facilitator and nanny, which has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge in child development.
My extensive research into child development has helped me gain a deeper understanding of the needs and challenges that children face, and how best to support them in their growth and development.
In addition to my primary education and child development background, I have also received mindfulness training, non-violent communication training, and transforming communication training. These skills have allowed me to approach parenting and teaching in a mindful and intentional way, and to effectively communicate with children and families in a way that is supportive and empowering.
With all of this experience and training, I am excited to launch my new business, Parenting on Purpose, where I aim to support and guide parents in their journey of raising confident, happy, and successful children. Whether through one-on-one coaching, workshops, or online resources, I am dedicated to helping parents build strong, meaningful relationships with their children, and to create a supportive and nurturing environment for their growth and development.
In addition to my work in education, I am also a proud mother of two children. Through my own personal experiences as a parent, I have developed a strong understanding of the importance of parenting with purpose. This led me to start my own business, "Parenting on Purpose", where I help parents navigate the challenges of raising children in today's world by providing them with the tools, skills, and knowledge they need to be effective and confident parents.
I am dedicated to supporting families and helping children reach their full potential, and I believe that through my work in education and my new business, I can make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families.
